“Healing Powers of Mother Nature”

Have you ever felt all of your troubles simply melting away while you were basking in the warmth of morning sunshine? Or while you were feeling the blowing wind on your skin and in your hair? Well, it seems that you were perfectly reasonable to feel that way. We have always felt that nature has always been the healer that we all need. And now a large body of scientific research is also saying the same.

These healing powers of nature work almost like magic on humans. If you are feeling stressed or even depressed, taking a little stroll around a natural park or vising a place with a natural scenic setting will most definitely improve your mood. You may be wondering how this happens. Well, according to researchers it is because nature can affect our body both physically and mentally. It can lower the levels of stress hormones such as cortisol. This leads to a reduced heart rate, lowered blood pressure, and even a boosted immune system. This can also be achieved to some extent simply by looking at scenes of nature.

However, being physically present in nature has additional benefits too. Some trees are known to release aromatic substances which are known as phytoncides. When we inhale these substances it affects the function of our body in almost the same way as aromatherapy. This can provide vital health benefits such as boosted protection against cancer in addition to lowering blood pressure and boosting the immunity system. This occurs because phytoncides are capable of increasing the amounts of “natural killer (NK) cells” in our bloodstream. NK cells are a certain type of white blood cell which are known to lower the risk of cancer.

According to scientists and experts in the field, the reason behind nature having such a strong effect on our health is because we are wired to see nature as a positive thing. They say that it is in our DNA to view nature as a place of sanctuary. Therefore, when we spend time in nature, our brains relax and let go a little. This leads to reduced stress levels and blood pressure which in turn boosts the immune system that helps us to live longer in addition to having our moods lifted. The electromagnetic frequency of the earth which is also known as “Schumann Resonance” is also believed to be a part of the helping team too. Medical reports are indicating that our bodies become more in sync and better functioning when we are physically connected with nature. So, it is a good idea to remove your shoes and let your feet touch the ground whilst hugging a tree once in a while.

Not only that, but spending more and more time in nature also helps us to achieve long term goals such as improved memory, reduced inflammation, better sleep quality, and increased creativity. In Japan, a method called “forest bathing – shinrin yoku” is practised. It is simply the practice of being in nature and absorbing nature through all of your senses.

By now, you might be planning your next vacation to a deep and rich forest where you can clear your mind and be at peace. However, you do not have to wait until your vacation to do so. You can always try being with nature anytime that is possible. Even merely working in your home garden can be therapeutic for your health. Therefore, in stressful times like these, try your best and encourage your loved ones to be with nature for the betterment of the physical and mental well-being of us all.
