NAPOLI 2019, the summer universiade was held in Naples, Italy which ran from 3rd of July to 14th of July 2019. Yasitha Rangana de Silva ( University of Colombo) and Erandi Warusawithana ( University of Sri Jayawardenapura) led the Sri Lankan team as Captain and Vice Captain, respectively.
In the athletic field, 100×4 meters relay women’s match was participated by a team of four sri Lankan runners in which they secured the 14th place. The team included Akshana Moralanda, Shanika Dulakshi, I.G.I. Shrimali (University of Sri Jayawardenapura) and Omaya Udayangani (Sabaragamuwa University). The men’s event was ranked 14th by the Sri Lankan team consisting of Gihan Ranaweera (University of Colombo), Maleen Udaya (University of Sri Jayawardenapura), Kavindu Araliya (Sabaragamuwa University) and Pasindu Piyathilake(University of Ruhuna). The 15th rank was achieved from the 400×4m relay by Yohan Kavinda, Kavindu Laknath (Sabaragamuwa University) Ishan Lahiru (University of Sri Jayawardenapura) and Kushan Dias(University of Ruhuna).
In Tennis Men’s Singles event the captain of the Sri Lankan team managed to record a win over the Saudi Arabia player which qualified him for the main draw. The women’s double event of Table Tennis was represented by Pawani Sirisena (Wayamba University) and Thedini Jayawardhana of Sabaragamuwa University. They were able to win the match over the Australian pair. Supuna Poornima Warusawithana and Mewan Abeywickrama from the University of Moratuwa played and won the men’s event over Netherlands players.
In the Table Tennis Women’s singles event Thedini Jayawardhana (Sabaragamuwa University) qualified for the main draw by beating the USA player. In the same event Pavani Sirisena of Wayamba University won over the Canadian player.
