The University of Peradeniya Cricket team, under the leadership of skipper Aravinda Deshabhakthi is ready to capture the cricket championship in Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) 2019. Even though the competition is tough, the players are ready to play to their fullest potential in order to succeed forward in the tournament.
The championship has often eluded the Pera team in previous years. In 2016 SLUG cricket quarter finals Pera team couldn’t get through the Rajarata team after a hard fought battle. In 2018 Inter-University Games Pera cricketers played the quarter finals against the University of Colombo team. However they lost the match by a tight 7 point margin. In 2017 IUG the Pera team again wasn’t fortunate enough to get through the quarter finals.
This year the players are ready and determined to bring the gold to Peradeniya as they easily got through their first match against the University of Visual and Performing Arts. They are keen on maintaining their momentum and winning the next matches, eventually winning the championship itself. The team is strong with the vice captain Nilupul Bimsara, Wicket keeper Sachin Madhushan, Kavishka Dissanayake and Uvindu Kahagalla being in form with the bat. The bowling attack is also well prepared with the likes of spinner Shehan Sanjeewa. The skipper Aravinda Deshabhakthi has performed exceptionally well as an all rounder and he is positively confident about his team’s capabilities and chances on winning the SLUG 2019 cricket championship.
